Burnt out or Bored out?
BURNOUT

For most of my adult life I worked in the NHS, eventually moving into senior leadership within a large teaching hospital.
It was work I cared deeply about and felt privileged to do.
But over time something began to shift.
The pace that had once felt purposeful started to feel strangely repetitive.
Decisions I once found stimulating began to feel familiar.
I realised that the challenge that had energised me for many years was no longer there in the same way.
And without quite noticing when it happened, I had begun operating on professional autopilot.
It was only later that I understood how draining that can become.
Because many high-achieving women assume burnout only happens when we are doing too much.
But sometimes it happens when the work that once stretched us no longer does.
When our capability has grown beyond the structures we are operating within.
That realisation became the beginning of what I now call The Second Ascent™.
